Overview
Climbing Machame also known as Whisky route in 7days is less challenging as it meets the minimum recommended time for medium size climbers. It is suitable for people with good physical health and at most suitable for often climbers. Age, body weight, body flexibility are some of the determining factor for the successful climb on this route. Slow climbing with enough intake of water is a true economy for this journey of your life time.
Itinerary
You will have 3hrs Transfer from hotel to the starting point. Together with the group, you will do all the formalities at the entrance gate; you will have lunch and fill your nelgen bottles with mineral water before the start of your climb. You will start with a gradual beautiful ascend that goes within the rainy forest to the first camp. You must have your rain gears with you, do not ignore, it often rains. The climb is beautiful and during high season it is often full of activities with most of hikers starting their climb during weekends. On a clear day the route offers opportunity to see wildlife especially animals that stays in trees i.e Colubus Monkeys, blue monkeys beside different species of birds and flowers too.
This climb inside the jungle is gradually long from the beginning till half way from where it changes into steep climbs. You will have to struggle with the climbs until the edge of the forest which is 15minutes away from the camp. On your arrival at the camp, you will be received by Kilimanjaro songs from your team of porters. You will be briefed on sanitation starting with the learning on how to make good use of our potable private toilette. You will be assigned your tent with sleeping mattress inside of which you will be using for all the nights that you will be on the mountain. Our waiter will bring you a small pile of water for washing after which you will be required to go to the mess tent of where you will have tea and dinner before the briefing for the following day from our guides. Then you will be going to your tents for overnight.
Our waiter will be waking you up by 6:30am and he will serve you a hot drink of your choice inside your tent. At 7:00am our waiter will bring you a pile of warm water for washing. You be required to start the packing of your items and 7:30am you will have full breakfast in the mess tent. After breakfast, you will have to fill your nelgen bottles with mountain treated or boiled water before the climb.
You will start with a steep ascend within the heather land filled with different species of flowers and birds, the views of the landscapes are superb, on a clear day you will be able to see Kibo peak, the highest peak on Kilimanjaro. You will climb steep within the heather zone as you go up till a halfway. From here you will be climbing ups and down crossing ridges and seasonal rivers towards Shira Cave Camp. On arrival, you will be welcomed by our team and served with hot lunch before having a rest. For it being our second day at the mountain, it is normal to experience of feeling to your body especially if it is your first time to be at a high level. Your might have extreme fatigue; you might have some headache or even some pressure in the head. At some point you might feel nausea, it is normal. Everything that will be happening to your body is the experience for the body when it will be trying to acclimatize. So afternoon hours will be for you to have a nap or just relax at the camp. In a good weather day, you will have an option of having the evening execution before coming back to the camp for a basin of hot water and evening tea. Late in the evening, you will be served dinner and later have the checking of you oxygen levels before the briefing before going to your tents for overnight.

After breakfast, you will have to fill your Nelgen bottles with mountain treated or boiled water before the climb. You will start with an easy walk in the heather and moorland towards the north east of the mountain. The views are spectacular with Kibo summit hanging in front of you. Being our third day at the mountain, you will slowly struggle with the altitude as you gradually climb closer to Lava tower 4600mts. Lava tower is the highest point of our day and it is an important point for the acclimatization of the body. At some point it is windy on your way to lava tower and is cold at Lava tower so you should be prepared earlier for cold before your arrival .This is where you will have hot lunch, refill your Nelgen bottles with water before the steep descend to Baranco Camp.
On our way down, you will cross some rivers that flow down from the glaciers of Kilimanjaro before crossing a garden of flowers and the beautiful species of giant sinecion plants. On arrival, you will be welcomed by our team that will serve you with a pile of hot water for washing before welcoming you for the evening tea. Thereafter you will be served dinner after which your guide will check your oxygen levels and finish with the briefing before you go to your tents for overnight.
It’s a very important day principally for your acclimatization. Our waiter will be waking you up at 6:30 with a hot drink of your choice inside your tent. At 7:00 he will bring you a basin of hot water for washing before you do the packing of your items. He will serve you full breakfast at 7:00am and immediately after breakfast you will fill your Nelgen bottles and camel bags and depart towards the famous Baranco wall. Yow will cross three small rivers before you attack the wall for the scramble. The wall is not technical but such an interesting part that requires attentions to the guides’ instructions. At some points you will be going up on your four parts that you won’t be using your walking poles. The scramble will last for 1hour 30min to go up to 4200mts where it ends. The view of the Kibo summit on your left is amazing, the view of the clouds landing on the canopy forest of the lower slopes in unbelievable. You will have another 1 hour descend down to Karanga Valley and then steeply climb for a half an hour to Karanga Camp for hot Lunch. You will be having the whole afternoon rest at the camp for acclimatization. You are free to walk around the camp or rest at the camp and do the washing but try to avoid doing any strenuous activity that might have a negative impact on your body. In the evening you will have tea before dinner and finalize the day with the check up and the briefing for the day to the base camp.
This is a special day, the day that of all the hopes, the day for the base camp, the day for the summit. Our waiter will wake you up at 6:30 with hot drink in the tent. He will later bring you a pile of warm water for washing before you do the packing. Full Breakfast will be served at 7:30 and there after you will make sure that your Nelgen bottle or camel bag is filled before the start of your trail. You will climb steadily for an hour before you gradually cross the rocky part that will lead you to the first ridge. From the ridge, the trail will slight go down before it steadily then steeply to the base camp. The view of both the Kibo summit at a closer distance and Mawenzi summit from a distance is so much breathtaking .You will have pictures of the base camp before the required registration and later go to your camp for hot lunch. We advice you not to do any strenuous activity at the base camp, instead rest. You will have early dinner and check up and the briefing for the big night so that you can have enough time to rest and even sleep if you are lucky. Make sure you prepare the entire necessary layers and any other staff that you will need for the night is within your reach before you sleep.
Our waiter will Wake you up at 23hrs for light breakfast and depart to the summit Uhuru at 12:00am.You will be required to fully prepared for the summit. At most often, hikers fail to reach the summit because of lack of enough information on proper gears. Make sure that leave the camp either with enough layers on you or with extra layers in your day pack. It is very important that you priorities your health than anything else at this hour of the night. We will refill your nelgen bottles and camel bags with at least 3 liters of water for the night. The departure for the long night will be at midnight. We shall start by a rocky ground that goes over the ridge. This is the most frustrating part of the trail. It is at night and you are feeling sleepy, it is cold, you are not used to walking with your head lamp but your head has to control your body and not vice versa. After 45 minutes of your climb, you will be on the top of the ridge and out of the rocky part, now on a more visible trail. You will go slowly with a gradual climb until 5000mtrs from where you will start to climb up on a zigzag trail. You will be required to recharge your mental health because the more you go up the more you lose your physical part. The temperatures will drop more as you go up especially on your final steep climb to Stella point 5756mts. As you arrive at Stella point, behind comes the sunrise on top of Mawenzi, it is heavenly. You will feel exited and rejuvenated as you climb the last part from Stella to the highest peak Uhuru Peak. The view of hanging clouds on top of glittering everlasting Glaciers of Kilimanjaro fills your Heart with so much joy. With temperatures warming up, you will proceed to Uhuru Peak the real top of Africa for pictures and have pictures and great memories. There after you will have 3 hours of careful descend back to Barafu the base camp. You will have 1 hour 30mns rest depending on your state of arrival after the summit. Our waiter will wake us up for lunch before we descend to Millennium or Mweka for our last night in the mountain tents. The decision of where we you be staying for the last night will count manly on your state after the summit at Barafu Base Camp. On your arrival at Millenium Camp, you will have a pile of warm water for washing before being served with evening tea as you wait for dinner. After dinner, you will have the check up before the final briefing for the last days descend. Your guide will discuss with you at what time you will do the tipping ceremony and where you will do it before going to your tents for the last night on the mountain.

You will finish up with the last ceremony with your crew before carefully walking down the mountain. The trail back down in the forest is often humid and so it requires much attention to avoid any accident on our way down. On arrival at the gate, you will to sign out in the registration book; you will be given certificate of proof for making it to the summit of Africa. After issuing of the certificate, you will be transferred where you have lunch before you drive back to Arusha for the last night at hotel probably in the preparation for the safari or transfer to the airport for Zanzibar or back home.
